Carnival tumbling - Pontelandolfo (BN)

The City and the Pro Loco of Pontelandolfo, in collaboration with the Youth Forum and local folk group 'Ualanegli Ri', has organized an intensive program of events that will enliven every weekend of the Carnival period.
It starts with the traditional bonfire dedicated to Sant'Antonio Abate, around which we consume dishes and carnival continues with theatrical performances, flag-waving parades, masquerade dinners, musical evenings and especially the winter meeting of 'Stories Olive groves & Pastures'.
The initiative, which was created in collaboration with Slow Food Alto Tammaro and Benevento and the Sunni delegation of the Italian Sommelier Association's objective is to promote the best extra virgin olive oil produced by the cultivar and the vortex tasty cheese Local.
During the carnival period, from 13.30 to 18.00, again the ancient and traditional "Tournament of the tumbles of cheese, as signs of recovery of local traditions.
Playing Ruzzola has ancient origins and was probably brought to the peoples of the Pontelandolfo Ciociaria who settled there around 1300 to escape a violent plague. It is still practiced by people who are divided into two teams and contend for the victory by throwing big cheeses on the road.
